If you’re feeling anxious about visiting — or even contacting — our Derby dental practice, please know that we’re here to help you every step of the way. Our friendly and fully trained team specialises in supporting nervous patients, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident about receiving the care you need.
From your very first consultation, we’ll take time to explain any procedure in detail, answer all your questions, and make sure you feel at ease. We understand that picking up the phone or sending a message can feel like the hardest step, but once you do, we’ll focus on making your treatment safe, comfortable, and pain-free.
We don’t take dental anxiety lightly. We appreciate that some of our patients may be nervous, and we will make adequate provisions. We are patient-led and welcoming.
You’re not alone in feeling apprehensive about visiting the dentist. It’s estimated that between 9 and 20% of people in the UK don’t visit a dentist because they’re afraid. Avoiding regular checkups substantially increases your chances of needing advanced dental treatment later on, and it may be for a more painful condition that can’t be ignored. It’s best to start doing what you can to overcome your fear before that day comes.
We welcome nervous patients. We’ve worked hard to provide a friendly, relaxing atmosphere at our practice and all of our staff have had additional training in helping patients overcome their fear and dental anxieties. Pain relief, in the form of local anaesthetic, is used whenever appropriate.
Yes. For long treatments we recommend you listen to relaxing music. You can bring your own with you.
If you let us know in advance that you’re feeling nervous about your visit, we’ll be able to chat over the phone before you arrive, and perhaps even relieve some of the initial anxiety you’re experiencing. Letting us know before the appointment will allow us to prepare for your visit more thoroughly, and create a more relaxing experience for you.
Your GP may be able to prescribe you some tablets or CBT to help you feel more relaxed before your appointment with us. It’s best if you speak to your GP about your needle phobia beforehand.
Our treatments are never painful. We administer local anaesthetic before potentially painful treatments are carried out to ensure you’re comfortable throughout.
If you’re feeling nervous about visiting the dentist, come and have a consultation with our Derby dentists. No dental work will be carried out until you’re ready, and all of your questions have been answered. Simply seeing where your treatment will take place, and meeting the dentist who will do it, should give you some peace of mind. We have many nervous patients, all of whom we take the time to reassure.
After your treatment, we’ll give you step-by-step advice on how to best look after yourself as you recover.
It’s important to overcome dental anxiety as soon as you can, as missing routine checkups can lead to dental emergencies you’ll enjoy having treated even less. We are here to help you overcome your fear in a sympathetic, patient, and friendly way. Please get in touch.
